School Knitting Kits
Knitting is good for kids. Cognitively, emotionally, socially and physically.
Each child's kit contains:
- 1 x ball wool (a mixture of coloured & natural) (33g)
- 4mm bamboo knitting needles
- Paper bag (heavy) to store knitting
Also included with each order is one copy of the Knitting Instruction book and Pattern booklet - schools may photocopy from these if wished. (Please add in the comments box if you require more than 1 copy of the instruction & pattern books ie. multiple classes).
For knitters, the left and right hand is required to perform different functions hence this action 'awakens' the correlating parts of the brain, concentration and focus is required to learn and follow the 4-step sequence of 'through' 'round ' back' 'off', then repeat this enough times to imbed the learning until it becomes a sub-conscious action.
Children who learn to knit go on a journey of experiences including patience, perseverance, problem-solving, acceptance and pride. They receive a huge sense of personal satisfaction and a boost to their self-esteem. They learn the importance of fixing mistakes in the moment and are encouraged to help others around them if they are having trouble.
Studies have shown the correlations between learning a fine motor skill such as knitting, and the benefits to numeracy and literacy skills.
